Roof repairs and leaks traced

Slipped tiles, cracked flashing, storm damage and the leak that only shows up when the wind comes from one particular direction. Most roof repairs are small jobs that get expensive when they are left, so we would rather come and look, tell you honestly whether it is a repair or a re-roof, and put it right the same visit where we can.

What is included

Every roof repair, covered.

Finding the actual leak

Water rarely comes in where the stain is. Flashings, valleys, ridge mortar, cracked verge pointing and blocked gutters all show up inside as the same damp patch. We work back from the stain to the entry point rather than sealing the first thing that looks suspect and hoping.

Slipped and broken tiles

Nail fatigue, storm lift and thirty year old torching all end the same way, with tiles on the lawn. Replacements are matched to what is up there, refixed properly, and the courses either side checked while we are on the roof rather than left for the next call out.

Flashing, verges and ridge

Lead flashings to chimneys, abutments and dormers redressed or replaced, ridge and hip tiles rebedded and pointed, verges repointed or dry fixed. This is where the majority of pitched roof leaks around Salisbury actually start.

An honest answer on repair against re-roof

If a roof is worth repairing we repair it. If it has had three patch jobs already and the battens are going, we will tell you that too, and you can decide with a written estimate for both in front of you. Nobody gets sold a new roof they did not need.

Questions

Asked and answered.

How quickly can you come out to a leak?

Emergency and storm damage calls get looked at as fast as the diary allows, usually within a day or two across Salisbury and the surrounding towns. Give us a ring and tell us what you can see, and where you can, send a photo through WhatsApp before we come out.

Can you make it safe now and fix it properly later?

Yes, and sometimes that is the right call. A temporary cover or a tarpaulin over storm damage stops the water while the proper repair gets scheduled, materials get ordered or the weather settles. We will always tell you which of the two you are paying for.

Is a small repair worth doing on an old roof?

Often yes. A roof at the end of its life still benefits from being watertight for another few winters while you plan and budget for the re-roof. What we will not do is sell you a patch on a roof that is going to fail again in a month.

Do you work on flat roofs as well as pitched?

We do. Splits, blown felt, failed upstands and ponding on flat roofs are all common, and in a lot of cases an overlay or a new fibreglass finish is the sensible answer rather than another patch. See the flat roofing page for what that involves.

Will my insurance cover storm damage?

It often does, and what your insurer normally wants is photographs and a written report of what has failed and why. We can provide a written estimate setting that out. Whether the claim is accepted is between you and the insurer, but the paperwork from our side will not be the reason it is refused.
